Auditions
We have conducted auditions to see who was the best actor to be in our music video. We were looking for a male actor who could lip sync really well and that would be able to remember lyrics as well. The person we were looking for is someone that was enthusiastic about being in our promo as well as being able to lip sync well. We asked all actors to lip sync during the audition to part of our song, the lyrics we asked them to lip sync to were 'Sometimes people look at you in a funny way but not today, cus they know things could change like the way they are your like a superstar so'.

Ancillary planning - V2
When completing some of our edits of our planned ancillaries we also came up with a new idea that we could possible decide to use instead of the first set of planned ones; we were thinking that there is a lot of talk in our song of newspapers and the main artist being turned from a scruffy no life person to a much more successful person a 'superstar' by 'putting on his boots' and kept on walking (getting on with life and following his dreams no matter what obstacles may face him). Playing off this theme running through the song of newspapers and the media we came up with a new theme; for the poster and the main front panel on the CD digi-pack we are going to make a mock up front page of a newspaper with the same image idea we talked about in the first 'planning ancillaries' post of a main image of kuziva but split in half with the scruffy unsuccessful side on the left and the smart 'superstar' side of kuziva on the right. But then when it comes to the other panels on the CD digi-pack they will also follow a newspaper style theme. The sketches of the plan are below: (also if we complete this ancillary idea we can get audience feedback from it and decide whether this idea is better than the previous ancillary ideas - so we can use the best in the audiences opinion)
This poster will also contain all the conventional feature of music promo poster that can be seen in the previous ancillary post. the layout is similar to that in the other ancillary it just this time it is in a newspaper style theme and layout.
this is the CD digi-pack sketch for the new newspaper idea, it has the same info on the same panels as the first ancillary plans but this time it is in a newspaper theme and layout.
I have started creating the poster in Photoshop and here are the first few drafts (i will update this post as it develops:

Graphic match testing
When completing our storyboards and our idea, we wanted to include quite a few graphic matches that can be used as transitions form one location to another, one of the main graphic matches in our production is when Kuziva walks from a urban city area into a field, rural are and we wanted the graphic match to happen while he jumped over a trailing to make it more interesting, once getting multiple shots we edited it up to see how it turned out before using it and this was the result:
From this we thought it has worked very well and we should definitely use it in our main production.

Mise-en-scene - Costume
Mise en scene: Costume
One of the main outfits in the production is the casual outfit he main signer will be wearing. He will be wearing various different casual outfits throughout the production and In various different environments. This will be showing the contrast between smart and casual wear that is described in the lyrics. The clothes will be provided by the person and will link to the lyrical content. They will represent the contrast of smart clothing and casual clothing throughout the production.
| |
|
|
Another main outfit is a suit which will be worn by the lead singer. He will be wearing a suit a certain stages of the music video, this will be a representation of some of the lyrical content in the music video. This will represent the ‘superstar’ that is in the lyrics. This will also show a contrast of smart and casual clothing.
|
The boots are essential because the music video is centred on the boots. The boots will first feature at the beginning of the music video and will feature throughout the music video.
|
Location Scouting
One of the locations that will appear in our music video is Bourne town. The town will appear several times throughout the music video. There will be random shots of the town at the beginning. This will give the audience a feel of the area they are in. It will also help starting here because as the video progresses it will show the musician will go from a village/town to a more urban like environment. The random shots at the beginning of the music video will last for approximately 25 seconds. The use of a town will also help the sort of emotion we want the audience to feel while listening to the song. The use of a village setting creates a lonely or isolated feel this is because as the main musician travels he will go from a populated place to being surrounded by fields. This will show his loneliness, at this point the lyric 'put on ya boots and keep on walking' will be sung and he will start walking.
The second town location is going to be Peterborough town centre. There is going to be random shots of the town centre which will show the contrast of the countryside town and a city. This will last for about 25 seconds. After the musician travels from the loneliness of the countryside he will then travel to a more urban area. Here he will still be walking and travelling to a place that's unknown to the audience. Using Peterborough will be good because it will show a good contrast between urban and rural. This will also help change the mood of the music video gradually because the mood of the music video will change and become happier. This will happen because humorous things will begin to happen while the musician is walking through the town. This will further help us represent the disjuncture in the music promo. We will be using several different locations in Peterborough. They will be used to help create a disjuncture music promo.
Another location is the Peterborough train station. The station will be pivotal in showing the transition between scenes. This location will be key because it will show time passing, the train station will be important because it distinguishes the location change. It is also important because the video is based on travelling in a straight line and the use of this train station will be a large part of this. Because the video is going to be disjuncture the train station will also help us achieve the disjuncture element of the music promo. We will also be travelling to a different location so the use of the train station will be vital.
This is the second train station we will be using. This will be the place we travel to from Peterborough train station. The use of this train station will also show the distance we have travelled which is a big part of the music video. The train station will also be key in showing a change in the mood of the music video. The audience will be able to see the further we travel the better the mood of the music video will be.
One of the key places that we will need is the field that the musician walks in. This is the link between the rural and urban areas. The field represents the sad, lonely part of the promo which is at the beginning. The field is essential in showing the audience the emotion of the promo at the beginning which will change later on in the promo. There will be random shots at the beginning of the video which will show the lonely area the musician is in.
Some side notes about our locations

Mise-en-scene
Mise-en-scene
One of the main outfits in the production is the casual outfit which the main singer will be wearing. He will be wearing various different casual outfits throughout the production in various different environments such as a field and a town centre. This will show the contrast between smart and casual wear that is described in the lyrics. The clothes will be provided by the actor and will link to the lyrical content. This costume represents the contrast of smart clothing and casual clothing throughout the production. We have decided that we want the main singer within the promo to mainly be dressed in casual wear as it when the costume change happens it will make him stand out. Also by using this costume it creates a sense of normality and being realistic.
| |
Another main outfit is a suit which will be worn by the lead singer. He will be wearing a suit at certain stages of the music video, this will be a representation of some of the lyrical content in the music video. This will represent the ‘superstar’ that is in the lyrics. This will also show a contrast of smart and casual clothing. During the part where the lyrics "superstar" are being sung the lead singer will be wearing this costume, it won't be exactly the same as the suit in the picture however it will be close. The lead singer will also be wearing a pair of sunglasses to make him seem more like a superstar. We have chosen this costume as it makes these lyrics stand out and also this costume paired with sunglasses is typically associated with a superstar/ famous person.
| |
The boots are essential because the main lyrics within our chosen song are "Put on ya boots and keep on walking" therefore we have chosen to use them in our music video as this image will link to our lyrics and therefore create meaning. The boots will first feature at the beginning of the music video and will feature throughout the music video. The boots will be essential at the end of our promo as throughout the promo the lead singer will be bare foot, this makes our promo different and stand out as well as when he is wearing the boots at the end of the video it will show the importance of them while showing the link to the lyrics. We have decided to do this as it will create the link to the lyrics and make the audience want to keep watching to see why he is bare foot.
